Imo State Governor,Hope Uzodinma has commissioned and ultra- modern office complex and corporate logo for the State Water and Sewerage Corporation .
Speaking at the commissioning ,the Governor said government is creating an enabling environment for the growth and development of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector through collaboration and partnership with international donor Agencies.
“On the 17th of June 2020, the State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with USAID for the Implementation of the EWASH project in Imo State in June”.
“More so, the State Government on the 6th of September 2020, signed a letter of commitment for expression of interest to participate in the World Bank funded Sustainable National Water Supply and Sanitation project, this is in addition to the ongoing World bank assisted 3rd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project, that the State had paid 61million counterpart contribution commitment for. Today’s commissioning of this edifice is a culmination of that effort. I am indeed delighted to be identified with these efforts.”
“It is in order to maximize the benefits of these donor efforts as a transformational tool to the government, that the Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation was relocated to this permanent site. This would enable the State WASH service providers to take optimal advantage of resources and focus more on self-sustenance using the corporatization principles and commercialization orientation while remaining accountable to Government. These principles will in a long way encourage bottom – top participation in economy.”
To further reposition Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation for optimal performance, the Governor announced that the board of Directors will be announced and Inaugurated soon.
Uzodinma noted that State government has also commence the digitization of Water Customers through the ongoing customer enumeration exercise and strengthening of Water Corporation to provide the needed manpower for the WASH services.
The contribution of this Corporate edifice is an achievement worthy of commendation and emulation. Its conception and successful execution is a clear testimony of the focus, effective managerial skills and prudence of the leadership of the Water and Sewerage Corporation.
