Two military helicopters crashed during a training session over a naval base on Malaysia’s west coast early on Tuesday killing ten people.
Singaporean news channel CNA cited the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) as saying in a statement.
It said that a navy helicopter carrying seven crew members on board and another one with three passengers collided at 9:32 a.m. (0132 GMT) at the naval base in Lumut.
The choppers crashed in the Malaysian town of Lumut, which is home to a navy base.
“All victims were confirmed dead on site and the remains were sent to the [Lumut] Military Hospital for identification,” said the Royal Malaysian Navy.
One of the helicopters, a HOM M503-3 with seven people on board, was said to have crashed onto a running track.
While the other, a Fennec M502-6 conveying three people, crashed into a nearby swimming pool.
CNA reported that the helicopters were training for a flyover for the 90th Naval Day celebration, which is due to take place in a few days’ time.
The cause of the accident was initially unclear and the RMN was set to “establish an investigation board to identify the cause of the incident,’’ CNA cited the navy as saying
