The Benue State Government has directed political appointees who intend to contest elective positions in 2027 to resign from their current appointments with immediate effect.
The directive was contained in a memo dated 16 December 2025, signed by Deputy Governor Sam Ode and released to the media on Wednesday.
The memo cited a surge in political activities across the state as the reason for the directive.
“Political appointees interested in contesting for elective positions are kindly requested to indicate their interest and submit a formal resignation letter accordingly,” it read.
Appointees were instructed to forward their letters of resignation or expressions of interest to the office of the Deputy Governor no later than Thursday, 18 December 2025, for further consideration and processing.
The directive aims to ensure transparency, adherence to electoral regulations, and the smooth transition of political aspirants from administrative roles to elective contests.
