For Engineer Michael Olatunde Ponle, Chairman, Micom Wire and Cable, love appears again at 80. Exactly two months to his 80th birthday, the owner of Micom Golf Resort in Ada, Osun State had just taken a new bride to the altar.
The prince of Ada whose name, Michael and that of his late wife, Comfort formed the name of his company called Micom Wire and Cable in Lagos, lost his wife, Mrs. comfort Olufunke on October 29, 2012 in the United Kingdom at the age of 68. Since the death of his warm-hearted wife who had already become a part of him, life has not been the same and nothing much had been heard about the businessman who has virtually retired to his country home in Ada, Osun State.
Prince Ponle however hit the news wave again, with the latest story of his wedding to the former deputy governor of Osun state, Mrs. Titilayo Laoye.
Until the Osogbo-born former D- gov. who will be 69 years old by March next year said “I do” to her new octogenarian lover, no one would have ever imagined that what used to be a mere social media entertainment could actually be real.
Reacting to the development, Deacon Kola Ogunmakin, a marriage counselor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God attributed their decision to an attempt to build a companion with each other.
“I don’t really see anything strange or wrong in their decision to get married. Looking at the calibre of the couple, it is obvious that they neither married for wealth nor sex.
“What enjoyment will a 69 years old woman derive from an 80 year old man? The woman is already in her menopause and there is nothing she can enjoy from any man sexually irrespective of their age difference. Same thing applicable to the old man. I don’t even think he can still have the capacity to sustain one minute erection.
“Again, if we are to consider it from economic point of view, it is also a baseless argument to think that they are married for financial gain. Nobody can contest the fact that the couple were already made before now. So to me, I strongly believe that they are married for companionship which is the primary purpose of marriage.
“They have done the right thing by going to registry to legalize their union. And for them to have done the traditional ceremony shows they really plan for what they are getting into.” He concluded.
Before now, the story about the wedding has been discussed in hush tones among close families and friends. The rumour about the wedding has already filtered into the social circle until it is celebrated at a modest ceremony.
