Two of the three domestic staff of a caterer, Mrs. Olakunbi Adene, who was murdered in Akure, the Ondo State capital, last week, have confessed to killing the woman after their arrest.

It was gathered that the two arrested suspects were apprehended in Akure and Idanre after detectives from the Ondo State Police Command tracked the woman’s two Android phones to them.

According to a police source, the driver of the deceased ran away after his wife answered a call from the late woman’s phone.

The source said three people were involved in the killing and confessed to murdering the caterer after she prepared a delicious meal for them to celebrate her 54th birthday.

The source said, “They explained that they went to the woman’s house, where she cooked for them on that fateful Thursday. After eating the delicious food, they descended on her and killed her.”

According to the suspects, “We strangled her and cut her head with a cutlass, despite her begging us to spare her life.”

The suspects said the deafening noise from the generator prevented the neighbors from knowing what was happening while they kept stabbing her. They also revealed that her stomach was ripped open, with her intestines exposed.

The suspects, however, said they tried to set the house on fire to make it look like a fire incident, but the gas cylinder they emptied failed to ignite.

“They covered the body with rubber materials, intending to burn the entire house so that people would think it was caused by a gas explosion from the kitchen,” the suspects added.

“The gas cylinder eventually exploded as they had planned, and the woman was burnt. They then took the deceased’s ATM cards and two Android phones and fled the scene.”

The woman’s younger brother, Adebola Oyeneye, said, “I was the one who took the body to the mortuary; they burnt part of her stomach.”

The source added that the police in the state are still on the trail of the third suspect.(Tribune)
