The Ondo State Governor; Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, has assured the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police of effective collaboration with the promise of giving them all the necessary assistance.
The Governor gave this assurance on Tuesday while receiving the new Commissioner of Police of the state; Bolaji Salami; in a formal presentation and courtesy visit of the latter at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House, Akure. While welcoming the Commissioner of Police and members of his team, the Governor urged the new Police boss to follow the amiable footsteps of his predecessor; Gbenga Adeyanju.
Noting that the Ondo State government have overtime had cordial relationship with the Police, Akeredolu encouraged the Police boss to work together with heads of other security agencies in the state. The Governor however used the occasion to task the new Police helmsman on policing the state’s borders and ensuring the enforcement of full compliance with government’s regulations on Covid-19 safety guidelines by residents of the state.
“I will never indulge the police illegally in performing any duty. There are more to be done by the State police especially at this crucial point the State is fighting against COVID-19”
“Borders are porous and this actually tells us more attention of the police is needed at our borders towards curbing excessive and unwanted movements at every part of the State” he said
Earlier, CP Bolaji Salami had expressed delight at being hosted by the Governor and described as a straightforward person. Pledging his unalloyed to the Ondo State government, Salami acknowledged that Ondo State has the feat of having the lowest crime rate in the country, and promised to improve on the record.
“I have heard a lot about how Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu takes care of the Police in the state, especially making their assignment easier anytime they make a call to the State Government. No wonder, Ondo State has the feat of having the lowest crime rate in Nigeria” he said.
