Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government,Sharafadeen Omirinde.
Omirinde was accused of unlawful diversion of N63 million monthly subvention funds belonging to the Local Government into a private purse, religious intolerance, anti-party activities among others.
The decision of the House followed a petition brought to the assembly by two-thirds members of the local government parliament.
Clerk of the House, Mrs Yetunde Awe read the petition on the floor of the house during Tuesday’s plenary sitting.
The Speaker, RT Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, after listening to submissions from lawmakers, declared Omirinde suspended to allow for proper investigation.
The Speaker also directed the vice chairman of the local government Mr Gbenga Akinola to take over while Omirinde stepped aside immediately.
Leader of the legislative arm in the local government area is to take over the position of the vice chairman.
