As the wind of preparation for the upcoming council polls in Lagos State continues to blow across the three senatorial district withparticipating political parties warming up to test their popularities at the grassroots level in the state, the All Progressive Congress has maintained its confidence that the party remains unbeatable in the forthcoming council elections.
In an exclusive chat with presentng, one of the Chairmanship aspirants, Mayowa Adebola was confident that the party will clear all the council seats at the election which is slated for July 22.
“Our party parades a set of candidates that are capable of delivering the dividends of democracy to our people in the grassroot. Going by the sterling reputation of APC in Lagos state over the years, we cannot afford to disappoint our people at the grassroots level and this is why we cannot but produce candidates with sterling attributes, people’s acceptability and well stated agenda for the people.” He maintained.
Mr. Adebola’s posture was in consonance with the position of the party’s National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu in his message at the party stakeholders’ forum on Wednesday boasted that APC will win all the council seats in Lagos come July 22.
However, the council election has been widely described as a litmus test that will prove the popularity of the ruling party at the local level given the current political storm that is rocking the boat of the party. In the last few days, the leadership of the party in the state has been enmeshed with series of allegations of imposing unpopular aspirants on the electorates.
Although, many of the party members see this development as a way of
compensating some of the loyal members who supported the endorsement
of the candidature of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed
Tinubu in 2015, some of the electorates are however of the views that the decision will jeopardize the chance of APC in winning major seats at the election.
In his own submission, Adebola was of the opinion that the whole idea was in the best interest of the people and assured the electorates that any candidate that emerges under the platform of APC is capable of winning election at his or her constituency.
As one of the aspirants who was asked to step down for an anointed candidate at the Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Adebola promised to work for the success of the party in the election.
“Although am no more in the race but am going to work assiduously to ensure the victory of our candidate at the election.” He affirmed.
