The Bauchi State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Hamisu Muazu Shira has called on the members of the newly inaugurated Environmental Protection Agency to give their positive contributions for the success of the ongoing move of keeping the state clean.
The Commissioner made the call when he presided over the inauguration of the Board members of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA)on thursday.
The Commissioner said the present administration has come up with a robust plan of overcoming the numerous environmental problems facing various communities of the state.
He said with the modern initiatives introduced by the current Director-General of BASEPA, Dr Ibrahim Kabir, the Ministry will work assiduously in order to achieve the desired objectives.

The Commissioner who is the Chairman of the Board, recalled that, the present administration had considered as important, keeping the state clean through proper waste and environmental management.
Hamisu Shira mentioned some of the power of theBoard which include, responsible for the formation of policies and generalmanagement of the Agency and cautioned them against engaging in a day to day management of the Agency.
He congratulated them for their well deserved appointment to serve as board members of BASEPA and reminded them of the task ahead of them of supporting the Agency to succeed in its constitutional mandate.
The Commissioner used the medium to emphasize the importance of trees in the managementof the environment and therefore called on the board to work out modalities oftackling abuses of trees in the state.
“The importance of environmental sanitation to the health of the citizens cannot be overemphasized and we expect you to contribute your quota for the success of what the Agency is doing in that regard.”
The Director General of BASEPA Dr Ibrahim Kabir on his part, said with members of the Board, the Agency will consolidate on achievements recorded in the area of environmental and waste management.

Kabir who is the Secretary of the Board stressed the need for mutual understanding between the management and board,appealed to them to use their experiences to assist the agency to access interventions from donors for effective implementation of its policies introduced.
“The current management of BASEPA is different and I want to assure you that our doors are open not only to you, but to members of the public for suggestions and observations.”
