The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has initiated an investigation into bribery allegations made by crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, against some of the Commission’s officers.
In a press statement released on Tuesday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, stated that Olukoyede has constituted a team of investigators to examine the allegations thoroughly.
Bobrisky, in a now-viral video of his phone call with Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that certain EFCC officers extorted N15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.
According to him, EFCC operatives demanded that he pay N15 million before the charges filed against him could be withdrawn.
He said, “They charged me to court. So we begged them that if they want to remove the money laundering, how much will they collect, and they said we should go and bring N15 Million so that they would remove the money laundering.”
Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have been invited to the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist in the investigation.
The anti-graft agency has also assured the public that the findings will be disclosed once the investigation is concluded.
The statement reads partly, “In a swift reaction, the EFCC’s boss has constituted a team of Investigators to critically look into the allegations. To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery.
“The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the result of the findings made public accordingly.
“The Commission is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism and collaboration at all times.”
