The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has confirmed that the three students rescued from a collapsed storey building in the Ekosodin neighboring community are in stable condition at the hospital
The university provided this update in a statement to inform the public about developments regarding the incident on Saturday evening.
According to the management, “Reports indicate that the building, where the students resided, collapsed on Saturday morning following heavy rainfall, which began on Friday afternoon, and thankfully, no life was lost.”
The rescue team, comprising staff from the Security and Fire Service departments, the Health Centre, students, and the Police, successfully rescued the students.
They were initially taken to the institution’s Health Centre before two of them were transferred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
“Management wishes the affected students a speedy recovery and commends the rescue team for their gallantry,” the statement concluded.
It would be recalled that the building collapsed early Saturday after hours of heavy downpour in Benin City.
