Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has described as worrisome the latest spike in the spread of the coronavirus disease in the state; just as he confirmed eighty new cases of the Covid-19 in the state within a week.
Disclosing this to newsmen at the Government House in Akure, Governor Akeredolu said the recent figure was recorded within the last seven days making the total lump sum to be one hundred and fifty four.
He explained that the breakdown showed that the state have seventy one active cases while forty seven people had been discharged with eighteen deaths.
Governor Akeredolu said all preventive measures remained in place, and appealed for more dedication to the use of nose masks, social distancing and frequent washing of hands.
He urged residents not to force a situation whereby the government would be forced to lockdown the state due to the daily increase in the positive cases of the pandemic.
Blaming the daily increase of the pandemic on the non-chalant attitude of some residents, Governor Akeredolu added that adequate measures would be put in place to ensure people comply with Covid-19 protocols.
