In conformity with the recent permission granted by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for the resumption of non-contact sports in Nigeria, activities for Racket Sports such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis as well as Track and Field events have commenced in Lagos.
The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, disclosed that Lagos, being the sporting hub in Nigeria, was prepared and ready before the announcement by the Federal Government.
He explained that as a responsible government and in order to make sure that the protocols for sporting activities are not violated, the management of the Lagos State Sports Commission immediately set up an Implementation and Monitoring Committee.
“The Committee’s major assignment was to bring back to action the sports which fall under the non-contact games as approved by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and monitor their activities to ensure non-violation of the set down rules during COVID-19″,he added.
Gafaar stated further that the Lagos State Sports Commission, notwithstanding the stop in sporting activities as a result of the COVID -19 pandemic, had lined up many events in anticipation of the post-pandemic period, either later in the year or next year.
