The death toll from the building collapse at number 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate Maryland, Lagos State has risen to five.
The building collapsed in the early hours of today Thursday, July 25.
Men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, who rushed to the scene for a rescue operation were able to save the lives of five survivors.
It was gathered that the incident happened when a set of three terraces under construction suddenly collapsed in the middle of the night.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, who spoke on the incident, said search and rescue operations were swift, leading to the rescue of some victims.
“Initially, three adult males were recovered dead, two male adults were rescued alive, and one adult male trapped under the rubble was rescued alive by the LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service.
All the six men were site workers. They are receiving pre-hospital care on location while SEHMU has been contacted for the remains of the three fatalities
A total number of dead is now five, adult males and a total number of five persons rescued and receiving medical treatment.” he said
