Delta State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 budget with an increase of N43 billion.

With the legislators’ approval and its subsequent increment, the approved capital budget for the 2025 fiscal year stands at N630.5 billion as against the initial sum of N587.3 billion earlier presented by the State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

On the recurrent expenditure, the lawmakers approved the sum of N348.76 billion as against the initial sum of N348.71 billion.

The approval was sequel to recommendation raised at Tuesday’s Plenary by the House committee on finance and appropriation in a report presented by its Chairman and member representing Ika North-East state constituency, Hon Marylyn Okowa-Daramola.

Rising from its Committee of Supply presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor where the lawmakers examined the Money Bill Clause by Clause, the House unanimously adopted the recommendation of the Finance and appropriation committee.

Following the adoption of the committee report, the bill was read the third time and subsequently passed.

Motion for the passage of the money bill was moved by the majority leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by the Minority leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor.

Commending the lawmakers for the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Hon Emomotimi Guwor said the approved budget was in line with global best practice, adding that it was in the collective interest of the State.

In an interview with journalists, Marylyn Okowa-Daramola said that the increase in the budget, particularly the capital expenditure, was aimed at ensuring robust infrastructural development in the state.
