A tanker driver has been burnt to death in an explosion at Atoyo, outbound Ijebu-Ode on the Ijebu-Ode-Ogbere Expressway in Ogun State.
This was made known by the Spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi said the accident was as a result of reckless driving by the tanker driver and it happened at 10:45am on Friday.
He said, “According to an eyewitness, it was learnt that the driver of the Deisel-laden tanker was driving recklessly when it suddenly lost control and fell on it’s side with its content spilling on the road before it exploded.
“The driver, according to the eyewitness was the only occupant in the vehicle when the unfortunate incident happened and was burnt to ashes before rescue efforts could reach him.
“The maker and registration number of the tanker could not be ascertained due to the level of explosion.”
Akinbiyi while also pleading to vehicle drivers, especially tanker drivers to avoid reckless driving, speeding, and drunk driving said that they should ensure to have adequate rest before embarking on any journey in order to avoid accidents
