The governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 21 September governorship election in Edo state, Dr Dennis Osahon Aikorogie has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC putting his political ambition on hold.
Aikorogie who announced his defection at a rally held at the Textile Mill road in Benin, said it was to put the state in the path of progress again.
He disclosed that he decided to move from his party, NRM to the APC because of the personality of the candidate of the APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo whose developmental track records while serving as a senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, speak volume.
He further noted that if Okpebholo could perform wonderfully well as a senator, he believes that he still has the capacity to turn the fortune of the state around if voted as the governor of the state.
Aikorogie said: “| am here today to lend my support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
“| am coming with my teeming supporters, my members and my party faithful to come and lend our support for the candidacy of Monday Okpebholo because we believe in his person because he is reliable and he is a doer. This time around, we need people who do things and not people who talk and no action.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo has been relating with the people, you can see and even from his senatorial district, even before he became a senator.
“You know he has been relating with his people. Someone like him as governor who has sympathy for the people and not people who came all the way from the blues and want to govern the state without any track records of human relationship or corporate social responsibility for the people.”
The now former NRM governorship candidate who said he is moving with over 5000 of his followers to the APC, admonished the people of the state not to be deterred by what is happening at the federal government level but should trust in the ability of Senator Okpebholo.
“My advice is for the people to join hands and vote in the APC despite what is happening at the federal government. we believe that the new administration of Okpebholo, Edo State will be different.
“We are going to experience economic development, youths employment, infrastructure development and a lot more. We must redeem Edo State from corporate brigandage,” Aikorogie added.
