A dastardly plot by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to cause rancour among civil servants in Ondo State has been exposed.
Presentng can atuthoritatively reveal that Fayose paid the sum of N10 million to the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Soladoye Ekundayo, to cause disharmony between the Ondo State government and its workers.
According to several sources who were present at the meeting, the evil plot was hatched during a meeting which had Fayose himself in attendance.
“Fayose invited the Soladoye Ekundayo to a meeting. He was given the sum of N10 million and asked to ensure that his members go on strike. Fayose, who was present at the meeting, promised Ekundayo ‘a handsome reward’ if he is successful and got his members to go on strike,” one of the sources disclosed.
It was further gathered that Fayose had tried unsuccessfully to get other leaders of the union before settling for Ekundayo, who another source said grabbed Fayoes bait and agreed to carry out the plot.
It will be recalled that Fayose, through his Special Assistant on New Media and Public Communication, Lere Olayinka, had earlier flooded the social media platforms with falsehoods about a purported plan by Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to donate the state’s two months’ allocation to the campaign of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.
Following the failure of the fake news to achieve whatever Fayose had hoped for among the Ondo State workers, he moved to the next stage of his plot, which the source described as the action of a desperate man.
Political analysts have continued to wonder about the strategy being employed by the Ekiti State governor in his campaign. Most of them who spoke with Presentng on condition of anonymity described Fayose’s actions as that of a drowning man who wants drag everything around him down to the bottom of the sea.
“The election is about Ekiti State, but Fayose has consistently tried to drag the Ondo State governor into his campaign. Rather than concentrate on his campaign in Ekiti, he spends more time speaking about Ondo. This is very awkward,” a political analyst said.
However, another political analyst sees Fayose’s style of politics from another perspective. According to him, Fayose is already setting up a solid alibi for himself ahead of the election on July 14.
“Fayose is wise, The style he has employed is to set up a good alibi for himself ahead of the election. If he loses, all he has to say is that he lost because the election was not about Ekiti alone. He would claim that he lost to outside influence. You mark it, that would be his excuse. All the lies flying around are all part of that plot to save face if he loses.
“Fayose is very desperate. He is scared about the outcome of the election in Ekiti State. But it is surprising that the Ondo State TUC Chairman could agree to participate in such evil plot. But, perhaps more surprising is the fact that Fayose, who is owing workers in the state between seven and eight months salary arrears could pay some greedy people N10 million to cause trouble in a sister state. It is shameful.
“It is very instructive to explain some things here, because civil servants in Ondo State have enjoyed steady payment of salary for more than one year since the incumbent governor assumed office. And I am aware that he has also cleared four of the seven months arrears left behind by a PDP government. In my own estimation, Governor Akeredolu deserves some commendation from the workers because he has done creditably well to clear the ugly mess left behind by the PDP.
