The Governor of Jigawa state, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar in Saturday presided over the handing and taking over of two thousand hectares of irrigation facility to the State.
The facility was rehabilated by the federal government through the TRIMING project which is supported by world bank.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said the project initiated during the 2nd Republic was revived by President Muhammad Buhari when he re-laid the foundation of the project two years ago.
He said the multi-beneficial project has reached over seventy-five percent completion, and the remaining percentage would be completed before the commencement of this year`s irrigation farming.
Also speaking the Emir of Hadejia Dr Adamu Abubakar Maje commended President Muhammad Buhari and Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for actualizing the project.
On his part, the minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu said the federal government has spend over nine billion naira on the rehabilitation and extension of over three thousand hectares of irrigation land at Yamidi town.
He said the project was aimed at boosting food security and the economic well-being of the people.
He therefore called on small and medium farmers to make good use of the site to create job among unemployed youths.
The minister reaffirmed the federal government`s commitment to boost agriculture to enhance food security.
