Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) and Premier League giants Arsenal have sent birthday wishes to Nigeria football legend Nwanakwo Kanu who clocked 41 years on Tuesday.
The birthday wishes were made on their Twitter handles on Tuesday.
CAF wrote: “Happiest birthday wishes to African player of the years 96′ 99′ and 96′ Olympic gold medalist Nwankwo Kanu.”
Arsenal wrote: “Happy 41st birthday, @papilokanu!”
Born in Owerri, Imo State, Kanu played for renowned clubs like Ajax Amserdam, Arsenal and Inter Milan during his club career.
At Ajax, he won three league titles (1994, 1995, 1996), the UEFA Champions League (1995) UEFA Super Cup (1995) and the Intercontinental Cup (1995).
Kanu was a member of the Inter Milan team that won the 1998 UEFA Cup alongside players like,
Ronaldo de Lima, Ivan Zamorano, former Super Eagles teammate Taribo West and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
And at Arsenal, Kanu won two Premier League titles (2002, 2004), two FA Cups (2002, 2003). He also won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win against Cardiff City in the final.
At junior international level with Nigeria, Kanu won the 1993 U-17 World Cup and the 1996 Atlanta Olympic football gold with the Golden Eaglets and U-23 Eagles respectively.
And with the Super Eagles, Kanu appeared at three FIFA senior World Cups (1998, 2002, 2010) and six Africa Cup of Nations (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010).
