Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
Buhari in a statement described the late COAS as a patriot and an exemplary officer committed to serving Nigeria with integrity and courage.
He reflected on his own time as Commander-in-Chief, recalling General Lagbaja’s bravery and dedication.
“During my tenure, Lagbaja stood out among the army’s commanders as one of the bravest officers, wholly devoted to Nigeria,” Buhari stated.
He highlighted Lagbaja’s roles in various security operations, such as Operation Zaki in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Operation Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.
“In every mission, General Lagbaja’s professionalism and leadership left an unforgettable mark,” Buhari added.
Buhari offered prayers for General Lagbaja’s soul, commending his steadfast service to the Nigerian Army and the country.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the General’s family, the Nigerian Army, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government, and all Nigerians.
