Prof. Baikie served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin between 1978 and 1986 and made history as the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria.

His academic and administrative career also included service as Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho and Nasarawa State University, where he played key roles in strengthening institutional growth and academic standards.

Paying tribute, the Vice-Chancellor referred to him as an accomplished administrator and visionary educator, noting that his contributions helped shape modern educational development in several institutions.

He urged the family to draw comfort from the professor’s remarkable life of dedication to learning, leadership, and service to humanity, adding that his enduring legacy would continue to guide future generations of scholars and university administrators.

The University of Benin offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and expressed solidarity with his family, friends, and professional associates during this period of loss
