Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to judicial independence, accountability, and integrity in Benue State.

The Governor made the remarks in Makurdi, during the swearing-in of Mrs. Franca Yuwa as a Judge of the Benue State High Court.

Governor Alia described the appointment as a recognition of merit, tracing Justice Yuwa’s career from Magistrate Grade II, to Chief Magistrate, and Registrar of the High Court.

He said her elevation sends a clear message to young lawyers, particularly women, that dedication and excellence are rewarded in the judiciary.

The Governor assured judges of his administration’s support, noting that more appointments have been made to the High Court under his leadership than in recent years. He said this is aimed at reducing case backlogs, improving justice delivery, and restoring public confidence in the courts.

Highlighting reforms, Governor Alia added that his government has invested in court infrastructure, improved conditions of service, and consistently respected judicial autonomy.

He charged Justice Yuwa to uphold the highest standards of judicial conduct, warning against undue influence, pressure, or inducement.

“Judicial independence must not translate into impunity,” he said, stressing that citizens expect the courts to be fair, firm, and guided by truth and equity.
