Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has released over N1.4 billion for the payment of 793 retired and deceased civil servants in the state.
This was disclosed by the secretary to the Jigawa State and local government pension board, Alhaji Hashim Ahmed while speaking to newsmen in the flagging up of the payment to beneficiaries in Dutse, the state capital.
Alhaji Hashim Ahmed explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from the state government, local government, and local education authorities who left service by attaining retirement age or died in active service.
The executive secretary explained that 222 workers left service at the state government, 184 from the local education authority and 183 from 27 local government councils in the state.
He noted that “144 people died in service at 59 local government councils, 44 in the local education authority and 41 in the state government.”
According to him “the total sum of N436,561,540.55 to be paid to 222 retired workers in the state government, N337,744,809.35 will go to the 144 local education retired staff and N234,180,029.52 are for 183 local government councils civil servants.
“Adding the aforementioned figures altogether, it will give you a total sum of N1,008,486,379.42 for a total of 549 workers who retired from the state and 27 local councils and local education authorities in the state.”
He maintained that “the sum of N373,918,663.01 is earmarked for the settlement of death benefits to the families of deceased workers who died in active service in the state, and N68,962,175.58 to be paid to settle 53 death pension balance.
