Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed sadness over the petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Agaie Local Government Area, leading to the loss of lives and property.
The incident occurred when a fuel tanker collided with a trailer carrying travelers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State.
Forty-eight people, who perished in the explosion, were laid to rest in a mass burial according to Islamic rites.
Additionally, around 50 cattle were also killed in the accident.
The Governor in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, said he is pained by the unfortunate incident and the colossal loss incurred.
He explained that the State Government through the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA and other relevant organisations have been mobilised to the scene of the accident for rescue operations and other necessary actions.
Bago also called for calm by the residents of the affected area and also enjoins road users to always be cautious and abide by road traffic regulations to safeguard lives and property while praying that Allah will repose the souls of the departed and grant quick recovery to those injured.
