A special delegation of the All Progressive’s Congress led by the Chairman of the National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, received the Governor of Ebonyi State,David Umahi into the Party in Abakaliki on Wednesday night.
Governor Umahi led members of the State and National Assemblies, Cabinet, Party leaders, stakeholders and teeming supporters into the All Progressive Congress.
Governor Umahi in his speech at the official defection announced that “henceforth, Ebonyi is 100% APC. We are all moving to APC.”
He, however, called for unity between both APC and PDP, noting that, “Together, we are stronger.”
He however appreciated the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and all the achievements made under the party.
The Deputy governor Eric Igwe at the event announced that he will be joining his principal in the APC.
“Where you go I will go, where you stand, I will stand,” Igwe said.

The Special delegation, who are in Ebonyi at the instance of the Party Leader, President Muhammadu Buhari include the Kebbi State Governor and Chairman Progressive Governors Forum, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Niger State Governor and member National Caretaker Committee, Abubakar Sani Bello, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, Member of the Caretaker Committee and former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, Alhaji Kashim Imam, Chairman of TETFUND and Malam Sarki Abba, Senior Special Assistant to Mr President. They welcomed Governor Umahi and all those who joined the party wish him.
In his remarks welcoming Governor Umahi, the leader of the delegation and National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni informed the gathering that President Muhammadu Buhari is quite happy about the decision of the Governor.
Equally he mentioned that all party members across the country are happy with the development and following consultations and in line with the constitution of the Party, he announced the formation of a caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the party in the state.
Umahi had earlier on Tuesday, November 27 dumped PDP for APC after weeks of speculation that he had taken the decision to dump the opposition party for the ruling party.
He also faulted the claims that he left the PDP to achieve his ambition of becoming the president in 2023.
While giving reasons for his defection, he said is the South East region has suffered what he describes as injustice in the PDP.
The governor disclosed that the decision to leave the PDP for the APC was to protest against what he described as the injustice of the opposition party to the South East.
