Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has presented a N153.4 billion budget proposal to the State House of Assembly, for the 2021 fiscal year, representing a 9.7% increase from the revised 2020 budget .
The budget tagged ‘Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) Budget’, is exclusively pinned on robustly responding to the dislocations caused by the coronavirus pandemic, whilst building a workforce of the future.
The Proposed budget has N94.8 billion for recurrent expenditure and N58.6 billion for capital expenditure.
Presenting the budget to the house on Tuesday,the Governor said the budget would address challenges in critical sectors of the economy, with increased targeted investments on the state’s most valued resource – its people.
He further explained that the State in collaboration with the house of Assembly have designed a unique instrument through which the state government can also attract private sector funding targeted at key development projects.
Receiving the 2021 budget proposal, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, commended the state Governor for prioritizing the welfare of Edo people and assured him that the document would receive their due consideration and passage.
