The Governor described it as a strategic plan to consolidate ongoing projects and accelerate growth across key sectors.

Presenting the estimate titled ‘Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development’, Yusuf said the proposal was anchored on completing legacy projects, nurturing human capital and strengthening systems for long-term development.

He said the budget size stood at N1,368,127,929,271, with N934.64 billion or 68 per cent, earmarked for capital expenditure and N433.48 billion; 32 per cent, for recurrent expenditure.

He said the capital-heavy structure reflected the administration’s determination to channel more resources into growth-driven investments across the state.

According to him, the Economic and Social sectors received the largest share of the capital vote, with Education, Health and Infrastructure topping the allocation chart.

Yusuf said education received N405.35 billion (30 per cent), Health N212.25 billion (16 per cent) while Infrastructure was allocated N346.28 billion (25 per cent), describing the figures as evidence of the government’s commitment to human capital development and service delivery.

He added that other sectors including Agriculture, Water, Security, Commerce, Investment, Women and Youths Development, Tourism, Environment, Climate Change and Transport, also received significant attention in the proposal.

The governor said his administration had implemented over 80 per cent of its development blueprint and would intensify efforts to deliver more results as it approached the third quarter of its four-year mandate.

He described the 2026 budget as “a covenant with the people,” adding that it was bold but realistic and designed to transform Kano into a resilient, inclusive and prosperous state.

The governor urged the lawmakers to ensure timely passage of the budget, noting that their oversight role and cooperation remained essential for effective implementation.

Yusuf applauded the assembly for what he described as unprecedented support since he assumed office, saying their partnership had strengthened governance regardless of political differences.

He also thanked the residents for their continued trust, and commended commissioners, MDAs, development partners and civil society groups for contributing to the drafting of the document.

The governor prayed for Allah’s guidance in the implementation process and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and accountable leadership.

Yusuf formally laid the document before the house for consideration and passage.

The Speaker of the house, Alhaji Jibrin Falgore, assured Yusuf of the legislature’s commitment to ensuring a timely passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

He said the lawmakers would give the document an accelerated consideration to allow the state to maintain the January December budget cycle.

The speaker commended the governor for what he described as “remarkable strides” in infrastructure development, security, healthcare delivery and educational reforms across the state.

He said that the assembly would continue to partner with the executive to ensure that ongoing projects are completed and new initiatives are properly funded to improve the well-being of residents.

Falgore reaffirmed the readiness of the assembly to provide effective oversight and support policies aimed at driving sustainable growth and development in the state.
