What was meant to be a peaceful demonstration by workers of federal university, Oye Ekiti at the gate of the institution had suddenly become an unmanagable situation that threatened the peace of the community.

The ancient town which housed one of the recently created Universities boiled on Wednesday as some personel of the institution allegedly attacked and threatened to kill journalists who came to cover the protest.

The university workers under the aegis of NASU and SSANU had reportedly embarked on the protest to press home the non payment of their hazard allowances, Christmas bonuses, salaries and other emoluments they are being denied by their management.

Trouble however started when two of the staffs known as”Yellow and condition” went baserk and attacked some journalists officially engaged to cover the event.

The duo who are suspected to be members of secrete cult in the school allegedly charged at the pressmen with dangerous charms and attempted to launch attack on them.

The journalists were said to have escaped the deadly move by whisker but got their cameras and other reporting items damaged in the attack.

Attempts by leadership of the staff association to arrest the situation were futile as the irate protesters were uncontrollable.

The action has however been condemned by the state chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela who also threatened to blacklist the action if nothing is quickly done by the leadership of the association.
