Pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has said that the Yoruba cultural activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has no authority to issue ultimatums to foreigners in Yoruba land.

Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere dissociated itself from the seven-day ultimatum issued by Sunday Igboho, adding that he never consulted them before taking the action and should allow the state government handle the matter.

It would be recalled that Igboho had last week issued the ultimatum asking Fulanis to leave Yoruba land after he stormed the Igangan residence of the Seriki Fulani noting that the Yorubas can no longer bear to be killed in their land by Fulanis.

Odumakin said while Igboho can express his opinions and concerns, he has no authority to issue ultimatums to foreigners to leave Yorubaland.

He also said the Afenifere told Igboho to show respect to constituted authority and stop acting as if he is superior to the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde.

Odumakin said, “No, he did not consult us before issuing the ultimatum but we have told him that he is not a state actor and he cannot act unilaterally”.

“He can express his opinions, concerns as a citizen and we agree with that . But he cannot begin to issue ultimatum for people to quit Yorubaland”.

“We also told him that he cannot act as if he is superior to the governor of Oyo state. We have advised him to mellow down and not to allow any crisis to come out of this.”
