A communal clash between Hausa and Fulani groups claimed two lives in Agufa village, Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident which took place on Monday, February 17, 2025, started as a dispute over alleged acts of mischief attributed to some Fulani youths, and quickly escalated into violence.
Both groups were said to have engaged in an exchange of bows and arrows before security operatives intervened to restore order.
Four members of the Hausa community sustained injuries and were rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment, while two Fulani persons were found dead with bullet wounds, while another sustained gunshot injuries.
The police have deployed tactical teams to the area to prevent further escalation of violence and have assured that engagements with community leaders and other stakeholders will commence immediately to foster peace and prevent a recurrence.
It was reported that there have been previous cases of communal clashes between Hausa and Fulani groups in Jigawa State, including an ethnic crisis that broke out in Gululu village, Jahun and Miga local government areas, leaving about 11 people dead and 31 houses burnt to ashes.
The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue towards finding lasting peace in the area.
It was also reported that the authorities have taken prompt action to address the underlying issues fueling the communal clashes and work towards finding a lasting solution to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
