The abducted son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after allegedly paying N20 million ransom to his captors.

The victim, identified as Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, was kidnapped alongside his father on December 31, 2025.

A family source, who spoke to Punch on Tuesday, January 20, on condition of anonymity, said the prince was released on Monday after intense negotiations with the kidnappers.

“It is true the prince was released on Monday morning after we paid N20m. They dropped him at a herders’ settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area. From there, he was taken to the military base in Oreke, where they contacted us,” the source disclosed.

According to the source, Olaolu is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, having suffered physical and psychological trauma during his captivity.

However, the monarch, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, remains in the kidnappers’ den, alongside other abducted residents, as the gunmen are reportedly demanding an additional N15m for his release.
