The Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) has restated its unwavering dedication to passenger safety, improved connectivity, fleet enhancement and infrastructure expansion as it strengthens its role as a leading provider of water transport in Lagos State.

Managing Director of LAGFERRY, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, made this known during a media briefing in response to the recent boat fire incident.

“In the aftermath of the incident, our priority was ensuring the well-being of affected passengers and crew members. Prompt medical attention was administered, with all medical expenses covered by our public transportation insurance policy. This swift intervention underscores our dedication to passenger safety and wellbeing,” Balogun said.

He added that the agency had heightened safety checks across all vessels and terminals to reinforce its commitment to secure and reliable water transport.

Speaking further, Balogun noted that the agency’s strict adherence to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) protocols helped avert what could have been a disastrous outcome at the Ipakodo Terminal.

“Thanks to our adherence to safety procedures and swift inter-agency collaboration, we were able to prevent a wider disaster and protect both infrastructure and lives,” he said.

In line with its drive for continuous improvement, Balogun revealed that LAGFERRY had successfully completed the retrofitting of its fleet to meet modern safety and performance standards.

He also announced the commencement of a state-of-the-art drydock facility that will serve as a dedicated maintenance hub.

“Retrofitting our boats will enhance the durability of our fleet, ensuring passengers enjoy smoother, safer, and more efficient rides across Lagos’ waterways.

“The drydock will ensure that our fleet remains in optimal condition while reducing downtime and operational costs,” Balogun stated.

“It will also enhance our self-reliance and contribute to the long-term sustainability of water transportation in Lagos.”

He reaffirmed the agency’s mission to provide safe, innovative, and passenger-focused services.

“Let me reassure our passengers that we remain committed to providing safe, efficient, and innovative water transportation solutions. Our ongoing initiatives in fleet retrofitting, human capital development, and infrastructure expansion reaffirm our mission to enhance connectivity, deepen the adoption of water transport, and make it safer and more convenient for passengers and businesses,” he concluded.
