Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state in response to the ongoing severe flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital, and surrounding areas.
The move aims to prevent potential loss of life as floodwaters continue to wreak havoc on communities.
This was confirmed by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Innovations, Engr Lawal Wakilbe, on Monday evening. Wakilbe stated that all primary and secondary schools have been directed to close for a period of two weeks, allowing time for the floodwaters to recede.
The directive follows consultations with the state’s flood committee, which was established to monitor and respond to the emergency. Wakilbe emphasized that the safety of students and staff was the top priority and that the closure was a preventive measure.
Flooding has significantly affected numerous communities in almost all local government areas, particularly in Maiduguri, Jere, and other nearby regions
