A multi-storey building located on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos collapsed on Saturday morning leaving several people trapped beneath the rubble.
The building, reportedly still under construction, also housed the popular local restaurant.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 8:00 am, catching both occupants and passersby off guard.
The exact number of casualties remains unknown as emergency responders continue rescue operations at the scene.
As at the time of filing this report, five people have been rescued so far from the rubble of the building collapse.
While speaking with journalists at the scene of the collapse, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, said searchers would “Get to ground zero” for other victims still buried under the rubble.
