Six notorious bandits on Monday embraced the peace initiative of the Zamfara State Government and laid down their arms.
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle who received the six bandits, Auwalu Daudawa and five others at the government house in Gusau expressed delight that they decided to tow the path of peace by surrendering.
He expressed optimism that more bandits will also accept the peace deal to lay down their arms so that peace can be restored in Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria.
While noting that the fight against insecurity is not for the state government and security agencies alone, the Governor asked the people to support the fight so that the state can succeed in restoring peace thereby enabling residents to sleep with their two eyes closed.
After taking an oath with the Holy Quran in the presence of Governor Matawalle and other stakeholders, they laid down their arms, vowing not to go back to banditry anymore.
The repentant bandits surrendered about 42 sophisticated weapons and several ammunitions to embrace the peace initiatives of the State Government.
Sophisticated weapons which include AK-47 rifles, General Multipurpose Machine Gun (GPMG), Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) and several ammunitions are to be surrendered.
Feeling remorseful, the ex-bandits asked for forgiveness from Nigerians over their engagement in criminal activities.
