The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation, Afenifere, on Wednesday, kicked against the move by Miyetti Allah Hore to set up a security outfit in Nasarawa State.
Recall that the Nomad Vigilante Group, a quasi-security outfit representing the Fulani community in Nasarawa State, was launched on January 17.
There were reports on Tuesday indicating that the president of Miyetti Allah, Bello Bodejo, was arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, following the formation of the security outfit.
Reacting, Afenifere, in a communiqué issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, at the end of its first general meeting in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday, said the Fulani social-cultural organization lacked the power to establish a security outfit.
The communique reads partly, “The meeting took note of the report that Miyetti Allah Hore set up a 1,144-strong Nomad Vigilante militia in Nassarawa ostensibly to provide security for Fulani herders.
“Afenifere was of the opinion that Miyetti Allah, being a non-state actor, should not have the power to do a thing like that.
“It therefore considered the action of the Department of State Security, DSS, to checkmate Miyetti Allah on the issue as timely and in order.”
