According to him, the police were alerted about the violent altercation between the two students early Thursday morning by one Mercy, the landlord of the lodge.

He said, “On the 6th of February, 2025, at about 0200hrs, a report was lodged at Nasarawa Division by one Mercy Bassey, a female resident at the address behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa, regarding a violent altercation between two individuals.
The incident occurred between one of her tenants and his friend at their lodge.

“Upon receiving the report, the commissioner of police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately sent a team of detectives who promptly responded to the scene.

“The detectives found one Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), lying in a pool of his own blood. Ibrahim had suffered fatal injuries.

“He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. The body was subsequently deposited in the morgue for post mortem examination.

“Following a swift investigation, the suspect, one John Gambo, a male ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution, was apprehended.

“The suspect confessed to violently attacking/hacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death. Both the axe and the knife were recovered from the suspect.”

The Nasarawa Police Command spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
