Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country on Tuesday began the implementation of a new electricity tariff regime.

In press statements issued on Monday, the distribution companies notified their customers of the commencement of the new charges.

According to the ikeja Electric in a statement posted on it official twitter page on Tuesday,the new order clusters Ikeja Electric customers into 5 Tariff Service Bands and revises the tariff payable by customers based on quality of service.

The statement reads” Dear Esteemed Customer,This is to notify our customers that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the MULTI YEAR TARIFF ORDER (MYTO) 2020 (“the Order”), which takes effect from September 1, 2020.

“This Order clusters Ikeja Electric customers into 5 Tariff Service Bands and revises the tariff payable by customers based on quality of service. This is measured by the average availability of power delivered over a one month period; factoring the frequency and duration…

“This is measured by the average availability of power delivered over a one month period; factoring the frequency and duration of interruptions and other service parameters.

The Order shall remain in force until a new MYTO Order is issued. In the interim, please note that the tariffs for customers in Bands D and E (highlighted in the table below) shall remain frozen until there is improvement in service levels.

“In other words, the old tariff for customers in Bands D and E shall be maintained until Ikeja Electric improves the quality of service provided to these category of customers,the statement reads.
