President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has described the abduction on Wednesday of some students and staff of the Government Science College, Kagara as a callous and despicable crime urging security agencies to ensure immediate rescue of the abducted persons.
Lawan who condemned the savage attack also urged them to ensure the arrest of the criminals involved.
He however sympathised with the families of the abducted persons and the Government and people of Niger State over the sad incident.
” The incident is a callous and despicable crime and I urge security agencies to ensure immediate rescue of the abducted persons and the arrest of the criminals involved.
” Our security establishment should collaborate across the agencies and with the state government to expeditiously accomplish this task.
” Government at all levels should also ensure that our schools are henceforth protected against heartless criminals who have apparently identified them as soft targets.
” I assure Nigerians of the determination of the Senate and the National Assembly in general to work with the Federal Government in finding a lasting solution to the disturbing security situation in Nigeria.
” Against the backdrop of this sad development and the general security situations in the country, the Senate today passed a resolution asking the President to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the country.
” I believe that there is need for something new; a different initiative on especially how to protect our schools.
” With that, the whole country will be praying and waiting for our abducted children to be returned back to their parents secured and well.
