President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu over the week-long blackout that has crippled social and economic activities in Somerset northern states.
The meeting was to discuss rapid solutions to restore electricity across the affected northern states.
Tinubu deeply troubled by reports of vandalism and intentional damage to power infrastructure, directed the Ministry of Power and relevant agencies to accelerate their restoration efforts.
In a briefing with Minister Adelabu, Tinubu was updated on the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s ongoing repairs to the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines.
The President urged the ministry to implement a sustainable solution to prevent future disruptions.
Emphasising the importance of swift action, Tinubu instructed TCN engineers to intensify efforts to bring immediate relief to the affected regions, where electricity is crucial for daily life and business continuity.
He also directed the National Security Adviser to coordinate with the Army and Air Force to ensure robust security, including aerial surveillance, for TCN engineers working to repair the damaged infrastructure.
Appealing to traditional and community leaders, President Tinubu called for collaboration with security agencies to safeguard public assets, stressing that the government would no longer tolerate acts of sabotage or the deliberate destruction of essential public services
