The MD/CEO of LACVIS, Prince Segun Obayendo has been honoured with the Technology Driven Vehicle Inspection Pioneer Award. The award which was presented to him by Transsafe 360° Global initiative recognises the giant strides achieved by Prince Obayendo to employ the use of technology to determine the road worthiness of vehicles.
Speaking at the award ceremony on Sunday, 29th September, 2019 in Lagos, The President of Transsafe 360, Mr Jimba Ganiyu described Obayendo as one of the heroes of safety whose contributions to the transportation sector cannot be over- emphasised.
“The impetus for Prince Segun Obayendo’s advocacy was born first out of his local experience followed by his international exposure. He had witnessed as a young man, the value placed on human lives through the compulsory MOT test mandated before the issuance of road worthiness certificate for vehicles. He would later see how technology was deployed, while sojourning in Germany, UK and America, to save lives and properties.
Fired with this understanding, Prince Obayendo gathered his family and assets and headed to his native land to lay the framework for what would be the revolutionization of the transportation sector. Coasting from states to states, he bared his mind to all top political echelons and relative stakeholders to train their minds on how regular and periodic inspection of vehicles is the way to reduce the over 100,000 deaths recorded annually on Nigerian roads.
Despite the obstacles involved in pioneering this movement, Prince Segun Obayendo never wavered and was resolute in his belief that lives can be saved and disaster averted by simply embracing technology available in other technological driven nations.
He has shared this dream with many others who have believed in this cause and have given their support to ensure Lagos State inclusive remains one of the safest motoring states in the country. His dream has birthed the now globally recognized Lagos Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service(LACVIS) a Public Private Partnership with the Lagos State Government.
Today, LACVIS, working closely with the Vehicle Inspection Service and supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, has developed a central database of over One Million Vehicles and have inspected thousands of vehicles since it started operations two years ago.
This dream and determination by Prince Segun Obayendo, has given him a voice that is above a whisper in the transportation industry. Today, he sits upon a growing conglomerate named Temple Group Limited that has birthed several computerized vehicle inspection centres in major cosmopolitan States in the country.”
Also awarded was the COO/ GM, Mr Segun Ogunnaike for his support of the activities of Transafe 360°. He was credited with deploying creativity and corporate communication to achieve corporate governance in LACVIS. He was also commended for his oversight functions that took LACVIS from a two centre organisation in 2017 to 15 centres in 2019 with each centre running a complete, credible inspection on all vehicles presented.
