Ogun state has been awarded the hosting rights for the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) by the ministry of youth and sports development.
Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, announced the new host on Saturday in Asaba during the closing ceremony of the 21st NSF.
The minister said five states put in the bid to host the 2024 edition of the sporting festival.
He added that the competition’s hosting right would have a backup candidate in Oyo state.
The backup host will be on standby and take over immediately if Ogun falters in its obligation of successfully hosting.
Ogun finished eighth in the just concluded festival in Asaba after pooling 15 gold, 18 silver and 37 bronze medals.
