Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday began the process of impeaching Ondo State Deputy Governor,Agboola Ajayi.
Presentng gathered that 14 of the 26 members of the Assembly signed the notice on Tuesday, while nine voted against the decision.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are present at the assembly complex to maintain law and order.
UPDATE
The motion was read by the Clerk of the assembly, Mr Bode Adeyelu.
The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, said that he personally received the allegation petition against the deputy governor.
According to Oleyelogun, the constitution empowers the assembly to investigate an allegation and proceed on impeachment when necessary constitutional requirements are met.
He directed the clerk of the house to immediately serve the deputy governor the notice of impeachment having been signed by 14 out of the 26 members of the assembly while 9 voted against the decision,insisting that the action was illegal.
