Femi Akeredolu, younger brother of the late Governor of Ondo state, Ogbeni Rotimi Akeredolu has dumped Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the candidacy of the Social Democratic Party, Otunba Benson Akingboye as the next governor of the state.
Akeredolu led the entourage of the SDP governorship candidate to the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo state Council, Ibadan on Friday.
Akingboye in an interactive session with the newsmen said he would harness the economic potential of the state to raise the bar of the Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR) to N500bn monthly.
He submitted that the state has no reason to be backward with the abundant resources it is blessed with aside oil and gas.
According to him, Ondo has all that it takes to top the economic chat of the Country, if its leaders are sincere in the implementation of their various policies.
The SDP candidate who claimed to have inherited 70 percent political structures of former governor Rotimi Akeredolu submitted that he is at vantage position to win the November 16, governorship election.
He said his intention to contest the election is borne out of the desire to develop the state as well liberate the people from the shackles of poverty.
He, therefore, promised to correct mistakes of the past administrations in in the state if elected as the governor of the state which according to him will bring succour to people in the state.
According to him, Ondo people are suffering, noting that the state will shine again when he became the governor of the state.
He said, “I’ve been in the state for the past 24 years, I’m a grassroots person, my brain is loaded with how the state will develop when I emerge as the governor.”
Akingboye, also known as OBA, has been actively campaigning and engaging with the people of Ondo state.
His declaration comes at a time when various political parties are intensifying their efforts to win the governorship seat.
