The Bauchi State Police Command has smashed a notorious crime syndicate, arrested a suspect and recovered stolen goods worth millions of naira.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, November 25, 2024, said the arrested suspect, Ukasha Adamu, was involved in a string of crimes, including criminal conspiracy, trespassing, fabrication of keys, instrument of store breaking, and theft.
According to the PPRO, the suspect and members of his gang specialize in surveilling various stores in Bauchi metropolitan, replicating keys to access stores and stealing valuable properties.
“The suspect, Ukasha Adamu, a 23-year-old male residing around Ajiya Adamu Road, Bauchi metropolis, was arrested on November 11, 2024, at about 1400hrs.
“Adamu’s arrest is the result of a meticulous investigation conducted by the State Intelligence Department (SID), which uncovered a complex web of criminal activities,” the statement read.
“The investigation revealed that the (defendant) Adamu and his accomplices had been systematically surveilling various stores in Bauchi metropolitan, inspecting keyholes, and replicating keys to access stores and steal valuable properties.
“This modus operandi has significant implications for public safety and economic growth, as it highlights the vulnerability of businesses and individuals to targeted theft.”
The Command recovered several exhibits, including:
– One hundred and fifty (150) bags of 25kg parboiled rice, valued at N6,000,000
– Forty-three (43) cartons of I.R.S. spaghetti, valued at N774,000.
– Twenty (20) cartons of Emperor vegetable oil, valued at N1,440,000
– Forty-two (42) cartons of liquid fertilizer for a product, valued at N5,040,000
The total value of the recovered goods is approximately thirteen million two hundred and fifty-four thousand (N13,254,000) naira.
“This significant recovery underscores the commitment of the Bauchi State Police Command to combating crime and protecting the citizens of Bauchi State,” the PPRO added.
“The Command is urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police station. The public is also advised to take necessary precautions to secure their businesses and properties.
“The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover additional stolen goods.”
