Workers were shut out of the premises of the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, while public schools and other businesses were closed on Monday.
This followed ongoing nationwide strike embarked on from Monday, June 3, by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC.
Organized labour started the industrial action following the federal government’s failure to meet the unions’ minimum wage demand.
Also there was heavy security presence at the entrances of all the ports in Lagos on Monday as workers under the aegis of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) complied with labour directive.
The strike also took its toll on judiciary as lawyers and litigants were prevented from entering the Federal High Court in Ikoyi and Lagos High Courts, at Tafawa Balewa Square on Monday morning.
Early arrivals at the court premises were gently told by the strike enforcers to please comply with the order, as “we are shutting down the court in strict compliance with JUSUN (Judiciary Union of Nigeria) order”.
Also activities were halted at airports across the country including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Lagos.
