The six south-west states Governors under the aegis of South West Governors’ Forum, Monday convened in Lagos to address pressing regional and national issues.
After the meeting, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was elected as the new Chairman of the forum succeeding the late Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who served as the forum’s chairman until he passed away in December 2023.
Key conclusions from our discussions include:
- Urging the Senate to pass the South West Development Commission Bill, following the efforts of the House of Representatives and the South West Caucus.
- Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and advocating for further road rehabilitation.
- Supporting the establishment of State Police and enhanced collaboration between security agencies and the Amotekun Corps.
- Endorsing ongoing Minimum Wage discussions with a focus on fiscal federalism.
- Encouraging federal-state collaboration on mineral resource development and investor leases.
