Lagos State Governor,Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday received 10,000 units of Spelling Bee dictionaries freely distributed to public schools across the State by New Era Foundation .
The Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), is the pet project of the former First Lady of the State, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, who is now a third-term lawmaker representing Lagos Central in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Governor who commended the gesture said it was another demonstration of her love for children and especially the state’s educational system.
“This is another demonstration of her love for our children and our educational system. We will see the footprints of this intervention in primary and secondary schools, because English learning is a strong tool that can define what students become in future.”He said.
“Senator Tinubu OON has continued to serve our state with zeal and commitment. The Spelling Bee Competition which she introduced in Lagos in 2000 has promoted access to learning. The donation of 10,000 Spelling Bee focused dictionaries is simple but historic.”
The Governor and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, personally took delivery of the education materials from Sen. Tinubu at an event held at the State House in Alausa.
