Senegal have emerged the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champions after a 1-0 win against host nation Morocco making it their second AFCON title, following their maiden win in 2021.

The match, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, was decided in extra time.

Villarreal midfielder, Pape Gueye, scored the only goal of the game with a powerful strike into the top corner in extra time to secure their second continental title.

There were unprecedented scenes in second-half stoppage time as Senegal’s players briefly walked off the pitch in protest after the referee awarded Morocco a controversial penalty following a long VAR review.

After a 15-to-20-minute delay, Senegal captain Sadio Mané convinced his teammates to return. Morocco’s Brahim Díaz then attempted a “Panenka” spot-kick, which was easily saved by Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.
